Community & Education

The Cape Cod Chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation showcases Race Point Lighthouse to the public as part of our charter.

Some of the highlights:

• Receiving and coordinating requests for community based non-profit group access to and use of the Race Point property

• Encouraging greater public access to the Race Point Lighthouse by planning tours and other activities throughout the year

• Developing and supporting educational programs and other activities consistent with the Cape Cod Chapter’s mission statement

Questions and requests regarding community or educational use of the Race Point Lighthouse property, including the Keeper’s house, Lighthouse and Whistle house should be forwarded to us. Please download our Community and Educational Access Form for additional guidance. Please fill it out and mail to:

Don Root, our former Community and Educational Program Director, created two Quicktime slide shows that demonstrate his vision and passion with Race Point and other locales on Cape Cod. Sadly, we lost Don to cancer in 2007.
He is deeply missed.

The files are VERY big - 4 to 6 megabytes each.
They are worth the wait!

Scheduled (non-guest) public tours of Race Point Lighthouse:

Touring dates for 2009:

  • Mariner's weekend starts the '09 tour season! Join us at the Race Point Beach parking lot on May 17th for free transportation to the Light Station. Light refreshments are being served along with tours of all the structures.

And wait until you see our "green energy" system! A wind turbine compliments the solar array providing all the electricity the Light Station needs. Tours begin at 10am and last until 3pm.

  • The Race Point Light Station will be open for anyone to tour the lighthouse on the first and third Saturdays from June until October. The lighthouse will be open from 10:00am to 2:00pm.

You can get to the lighthouse by walking or your own four-wheel drive vehicle (with the proper permit).
  • June 6 and 20
  • July 4 and 18
  • August 1 and 15
  • September 5 and 19
  • October 3

The touring season will be suspended if the federally protected Piping Plovers nest and block access to the lighthouse. Once the Plover chicks fledge, tours will resume.

Please stop by the lighthouse and bring your camera. Our volunteers staff the lighthouse. There is even a gift shop! All proceeds directly benefit Race Point.
