Solar power |

Solar power was brought to the Keeper's house in 2003. New for 2007 is a 2.5kw wind turbine. A diesel generator was used previously. It is now used as a back-up power source - using bio-diesel fuel. If you look closly in the photo below the "pole line" is visible. The telephone poles brought electricity to the house. When the light was automated in 1972 electricity was no longer needed and the telephone poles were eventually removed. |

The generator was used as little as possible due to the noise and exhaust. The Race Point committee voted to bring "green" power to the house in 2002. Committee member Don Root's herculean fund-raising efforts provided enough money to install a photovoltaic system the following year. |

| The batteries are charged by the electricity supplied from the photovoltaic array. Power is then routed to the electronics which then provide power to the house. At night, or when the weather is cloudy, the batteries have enough "reserve" power to supply the house for many days. |
